Abstract

Science Fiction is becoming a reality as we bridge the gap between our brains and computers. In this session, we will look at the ways we can interface our brains with computers today, covering both direct input and output. Practical examples of consumer-level hardware. We will also look at some of the cutting edge technology in development to expand the connection in the near future. The session culminates with a volunteer flying a drone with their thoughts via a brain-computer interface. What does the future of the direct Brain-Computer interface hold? Is this the secret to keeping mankind one step ahead of artificial intelligence, or are we losing our last vestige of humanity? Will big brother monitor our thoughts, or will we unlock a deeper understanding of who we are? A lot of this will be a repeat from my session 2 years ago, but I've got some new hardware to show off too.

Presenter Bio

As a child I refused to learn to read an analog clock because I thought it was an outdated technology that would surely be replaced by digital clocks. That sums me up pretty well. Beyond that I am the chief developer advocate and engineer for Embarcadero Technologies with over 25 years experience as a software developer and conference speaker. I'm a published author, and inventor on multiple patents, including the basis of swipe to unlock and pattern unlock. When I'm not traveling the globe inspiring software developers I enjoy spending time with my family and dogs, and performing professional improvisational comedy with CSz Boise. Embarcadero tools are built for elite developers who build and maintain the world’s most critical applications. Our customers choose Embarcadero because we are the champion of developers, and we help them build more secure and scalable enterprise applications faster than any other tools on the market. In fact, ninety of the Fortune 100 and an active community of more than three million users worldwide have relied on Embarcadero's award-winning products for over 30 years. Even if you are yet to use Embarcadero's products to develop software, you've used software developed with it.
