Building BB-8: A Robotics Story

This presentation will introduce several aspects of robotics and share the challenges and lessons learned while designing, building, and programming a life-sized BB-8 robot. In addition to demonstrating current progress on the build, a number of topics relevant to robotics enthusiasts of all levels will be covered including: 3D printing and finishing methods, physical layout and virtual prototyping of components before purchasing, controlling the robot with Arduino and single board computers, and implementing radio control.

Presenter Bio

Joshua Byers is currently enrolled at CWI as a dual-credit student pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and computer science. He has attended Boise Code Camp for six years and given a presentation there once before.
